Anti-Bodies (2015)
The series ‘Anti-Bodies’ explores invisible illness as a conceptual theme. As with the landscape, there are many elements of invisible illness, which are ignored, over-looked or misunderstood. ‘Anti-Bodies’ explores the way in which people view the landscape and echoes our relationship with it; we often observe the obvious and fail to notice intricate characteristics.
The intention is to captivate the individual to acknowledge the subtle and concealed attributes of the landscape and everyday life. By using the landscape as a metaphor for the emotions and the affected internal human cells of someone that suffers from Lupus, the intention is to raise awareness for the illness.
Lupus is an autoimmune disease, which affects the internal features of the human body that are not visible to the human eye, adding the label of 'Invisible Illness’. The artist has lived with Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis since 2011, this has led to the realisation that many people overlook the fact that she is ill, because there is no visible difference in her appearance, however closer attention allows signs and symptoms of the illness to become more obvious to others.
